Helping Those Affected By Parkinson's Disease In The Santa Rosa Community

Ringtime Fitness is proud to offer Rock Steady Boxing to those with Parkinson's within the Santa Rosa area. Whether you or someone you know has been affected by Parkinson's Disease, we strive to provide a positive impact on our community.

Various studies in the 80's and 90's supported the notion that rigorous exercise, emphasizing gross motor movement, balance, core strength, and rhythm, could favorably impact range of motion, flexibility, posture, gait, and activities of daily living. More recent studies, most notably at Cleveland Clinic, focus on the concept of intense "forced" exercise and have begun to suggest that certain kinds of exercise may be neuro-protective and actually slow disease progression.

What Is Rock Steady Boxing?

Rock Steady Boxing was founded in 2006 by a man living with Parkinson's and initially began as a journey between 2 friends. Through years of practice and insight, the two founded Rock Steady Boxing as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization to help other individuals diagnosed with Parkinson's. The organization has created classes to meet the fitness levels at all stages of Parkinson's - from the newly diagnosed to those who had been living with it for decades plus.

Exercises are largely adapted from boxing drills since boxers condition for optimal agility, speed, muscular endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork, and overall strength to defend against & overcome opponents. With Ringtime Fitness' Rock Steady program, Parkinson's disease is the opponent.

And We're Here To Help You Fight

Rock Steady Boxing is a form of non-contact boxing training for people with Parkinson's Disease. Each class is designed to focus on addressing certain symptoms of Parkinson's Disease, such as balance, tremors, and impaired gait, as well as addressing some of the non-motor cognitive symptoms that can come along with the disease. Each boxer is assessed before training starts, and goals are set by the coaches and the boxer so that every person can have their individual needs met through our program.

Our Rock Steady classes are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. In-person group classes are held at Ringtime Fitness at 9:00 am.
